L148D #5 This beautiful display is sure to make you smile! This is a Dandelion Flower top (so it is Fragile-be very careful when opening) that is surrounded by preserved flowers, moss and a caterpillar , a ladybug and snail! Delicate and elegant, sure to bring a smile. This display is approx. 4 1/2 x 2 1/2" with a glass top and cork bottom.

*Please note: A few of the Dandelion seeds can break off the main piece in shipping. This is natural and will not hurt the display at all. They stay contained in the dome and actually add a bit more beauty to the piece.

Dandelion facts:
Dandelion is a short-lived perennial that will grow just about anywhere, regardless of soil conditions, but rich soil will improve its growth. They withstand frost and freezes and tolerate crowding. Heat and insufficient moisture will cause the leaves to get bitter, but it won't kill the plant.
The flower heads mature into spherical seed heads sometimes called blowballs or clocks (in both British and American English) containing many single-seeded fruits called achenes. Each achene is attached to a pappus of fine hair-like material which enables wind-aided dispersal over long distances.

Species: Malacosoma
This insect is the most variable of the North American species of Malacosoma, in which six subspecies and several unclassified forms have been recognized.
They are often considered pests due to their habit of defoliating trees. They are among the most social of all caterpillars and exhibit many noteworthy behaviors.

Tent caterpillars are moderately sized caterpillars, or moth larvae, belonging to the genus Malacosoma in the family Lasiocampidae. Twenty-six species have been described, six of which occur in North America and the rest in Eurasia. Some species are considered to have subspecies as well.

The forest tent caterpillar moth is nocturnal, taking flight soon after nightfall and returning to rest before dawn. It is not known how far an egg-laden female can fly, but there is one credible report of this species flying hundreds of kilometers with the assistance of an unusually strong wind.



NOTE: If your item is in a glass dome please be aware that the domes are NOT permanently connected to the base. Care has to be taken when opening or removing the dome so not to damage the display or specimen.

All displays will be carefully packed to the best of our ability to insure a safe and damage free arrival. With Ground Advantage and Priority mail you will be covered by $100 worth of insurance. If damage occurs in shipping and your item was shipped with Ground Advantage or Priority mail, the post office now requires you to bring the package in to a postal center/office for inspection before any insurance payments will be approved and the item has to be in the original shipping box with all packing as you received still in box. Your refund will be processed once the package has been inspected and the receipt from the post office acknowledging the inspection is forwarded to us. This is an ordeal that no one wants to go through, including us, so we do our best to make sure no one has too!
